Traditional Harvests: Threshing the Corn

This movie shows the threshing of corn used to make long straw.

The wheat is passed through the drum of threshing machine to make the straw into yealms which are then taken away by horse and cart. Threshing the corn is one of many projects we undertake at the Weald and Downland Museum, West Sussex, to demonstrate the traditions of thatching, from growing and harvesting wheat, to thatching a historic building.
